Banksy's Mariachi Player mural valued at $200,000 ahead of sale. Banksy created the Mariachi Player mural on a tour of Mexico in 2001. Banksy's Mariachi Player mural will highlight a sale of street art at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills on June 26 with a $150,000-200,000 estimate. The work was created in 2001 while the artist was on tour in Mexico with Bristol, UK-based amateur football team the Easton Cowboys.
The piece is one of a number of murals he painted in Mexico, many of which contain messages of support for the Zapatistas - a radical left wing group that fights for a range of issues, including the return of land to indigenous peoples. Other lots include Anarchy Rat, which was painted in a Berlin graveyard in the early 2000s and carries an estimate of $50,000-70,000.<br />

The helium balloon. An object of such poetry. Its lightness, its fragility, its way of wandering on the breeze.This piece is obviously an iconic representation of battle to survive a broken heart. It's an uplifting visual poem to that most fragile of human emotions but seem to move within us as if on a soft breeze.

Most often using spray paint and stencils, Banksy has crafted a signature, immediately identifiable graphic style—and a recurring cast of cops, soldiers, children, and celebrities—through which he critically examines contemporary issues of consumerism, political authority, terrorism, and the status of art and its display.<br />

Banksy Parking Girl Swing first appeared on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles in 2010. The wall depicts the word parking” painted in black with the -ing” whitewashed out and a girl swinging on a swing from the word done in red. The wall itself, before the work appeared, was white, blank; the word parking” was not on the wall. Banksy put up the word and the girl on the swing, then, later, covered over the -ing.”
Art interpretation is subjective, though the meaning of this one is pretty clear. Here is a parking lot. It is utilitarian, and ugly, located along a downtown city street. The piece is in a commercial area, with business offices surrounding it. A park would be a vast improvement over the current land use. It would be a place where children could play, and would liven up the neighborhood quite a bit. Parking Girl Swing can be considered a commentary on the urban landscape.

Keith Haring</h2>
Bridging the gap between the art world and the street, Keith Haring rose to prominence in the early 1980s with his graffiti drawings made in the subways and on the sidewalks of New York City. Combining the appeal of cartoons with the raw energy of Art Brut artists like Jean DuBuffet, Haring developed a distinct pop-graffiti aesthetic centered on fluid, bold outlines against a dense, rhythmic overspread of imagery like that of babies, barking dogs, flying saucers, hearts, and Mickey Mouse. In his subway drawings and murals, Haring explored themes of exploitation, subjugation, drug abuse, and rising fears of nuclear holocaust, which became increasingly apocalyptic after his AIDS diagnosis. Alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, and Jenny Holzer, Haring is regarded as a leading figure in New York East Village Art scene in the 1970s and '80s.<br />

<h2>
Jean-Michel Basquiat</h2>
Jean-Michel Basquiat took the New York City art world by storm in the early 1980s and gained international recognition by creating powerful and expressive works that confronted issues of racism, identity and social tension. Although his career was cut short by his untimely death at age 27, his groundbreaking drawings and paintings continue to challenge perceptions, provoke vital dialogues and empower us to think critically about the world around us. Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now's the Time marks the first major retrospective of the artist's work in Canada and will feature close to 85 large-scale paintings and drawings from private collections and public museums across Europe and North America.<br />

<h2>
John Fekner</h2>
John Fekner is known for his street art and the more than 300 conceptual works he has created, primarily in New York City. Fekner’s art typically consists of words or symbols spray painted on walls, buildings and other structures that highlight social or environmental issues. By labeling old billboards or crumbling structures, Fekner is calling attention to problems and provoking action from both citizens and city officials.
His stenciled message, “Wheels Over Indian Trails,” (shown here) was painted on the Pulaski Bridge Queens Midtown Tunnel in 1979. It remained there for 11 years until Earth Day 1990, when Fekner painted over it.<br />

<h2>
Sanki King</h2>
Abdullah Ahmed Khan aka Sanki King, is a 22-year-old self made graffiti artist in Pakistan. A member of an old-school American graffiti crew in New York, Beyond Mankind Krew (BMK), some would go as far as saying that Sanki is the pioneer of graffiti art in the country.
He started his journey as a graffiti artist in 2006, around the same time that he became serious about hip-hop. Having mastered multiple elements of hip-hop such as Parkour and B-boying, Sanki has also recently claimed the title of the only “super hip hopper” of Pakistan.

<h2>
Lady Pink</h2>
Sandra Fabara was raised in Queens. She started her graffiti writing career in 1979 following the loss of a boyfriend who had been sent to live in Puerto Rico after he had been arrested. She exorcised her grief by tagging her boyfriend's name across New York City. Soon after she started tagging the name Lady Pink, derived from her love of historical romances, England, the Victorian period, and the aristocracy. Lady Pink studied at the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan. While a student there she was introduced to graffiti and began writing at age fifteen.[2] Within a few years LADY PINK began running with TC5 (The Cool 5) and TPA (The Public Animals) graffiti crews. Lady Pink painted New York City Subway trains from 1979 to 1985.[3] In 1980, she was included in the landmark New York show “GAS: Graffiti Art Success” at Fashion Moda, which traveled in a modified form downtown to The New Museum of Contemporary Art.

Lee Quiñones</h2>
“Graffiti is art and if art is a crime, please God, forgive me” – Lee Quinones<br />
This dope quote is from one of most outstanding writers in New York, who worked on groundbreaking projects in the early days, got graffiti considered art and was one of the few graffitists to paint an entire train from top to bottom and front to back, as he started with Subway Graffiti in 1974. Quinones cited Simon & Garfunkel “Sound of silence” song, pointing out the line: “The words of the prophets are written on the subway wall”.<br />

<h2>
Futura 2000</h2>
Futura 2000 is an old-school New York graffiti writer who used to paint trains there. About this one, he says, "That piece was a total departure from anything previous. I understood that I could do other things with spray paint and I wanted to experiment. The result was that car and two others in different colors. I was lucky to have (SEEN) catch that one, with the windows up because the others all got buffed or dogged. I had always thought of myself as a writer, tagging insides and other highly visible locales. But the transition to painting outsides and let's say, whole cars was obviously the move. I'm just lucky, I was even there. I really can't explain the mystery. Suffice to say I have had a nice little run."<br />

<h2>
DAIM</h2>
Born 1971 in Lüneburg (Germany), currently living in Hamburg, Mirko Reisser has become known as an artist worldwide especially for his large size graffiti works in the 3D-style, in which he depicts his writer name DAIM in serial repetition and within processes of construction and deconstruction. The book Mirko Reisser (DAIM) 1989 – 2014 is the most extensive publication of the artist’s œuvre so far. In 1989 he realized his first works in the public space – in 2014 the artist looks back on his artistic career that spans 25 years. This book gives an all-embracing insight in the work of the artist for the first time, from the beginnings of his career that started with illegal works on the street, covering the time of his studies of fine arts in Switzerland up to the present, in which his works can mostly be seen in large scale museum presentations.<br />
